The November WOW Scrapbook Kit is now available to order!
We have decided to change our schedule just slightly. The beginning and end of each month tend to be a busy time for us in our businesses so we have decided that the new WOW Scrapbook Kit for each month will be posted after the first week of the month. And we will take Full kit orders until the 30th of each month. The tutorials will begin emailing after the second week of the month if you are ordering the tutorial only. If you order the Full kit the instructions will ship with your paper & embellishment pack. Hopefully this schedule will work better into our businesses.
These great pages using stamps, inks, papers and accessories from the new Stampin’ Up! 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog and/or the Stampin’ Up! 2009 Holiday Mini Catalog.
Full kits ordered by 30th of the month will include a paper & embellishment pack.
Stamp sets, Stampin’ Around wheels, ink pads, adhesives and other tools can be ordered in addition to your kit if you need them. These will be shipped separately from your WOW Scrapbook Kit supplies. Please send us an email to wowscrapbookkits@gmail.com for any Stampin’ Up! products that you need to order – a list follows of additional supplies that you will need to complete the layouts exactly as they were designed. You may want substitute items that you may already have on hand.

Quick Trick
To achieve a soft, watercolor look, outline your image with a Stampin’ Write marker, and then use a blender pen, Aqua Painter, or water-dampened watercolor brush to pull and blend the marker colors into the area you desire. You can custom-color images by coloring directly on the stamp. Use the flexible brush tip on its side to shade and blend colors right on the rubber. The fine point lets you easily color small areas of the stamp. You can also omit parts of the design by coloring only those features you want to stamp.
Store markers on their sides to keep ink evenly distributed between both tips.

As with any dye manufacturing, card stock colors may vary somewhat among dye lots. The card stock is monitored continually for significant changes, but slight variations in the color are not considered defects. These colors are designed to coordinate with our ink colors. They may not match perfectly in some cases. Because there is such high demand for our products, Stampin’ Up! outsources its card stock and paper to several different paper mills. Once a mill creates card stock in a specific color, the mill tests it with a spectrophotometer, a device that measures the color. The card stock must pass the mill’s internal quality control standards developed in conjunction with Stampin’ Up!, including a color examination in a light box. Our products are then reviewed carefully by color experts at Stampin’ Up! before being approved.
Our exclusive colors average 15-25% virgin fiber (northern soft wood), and the rest is recycled. A few of the very light colors require 40% virgin fiber to achieve the pale colors.

Scrappin’ Tips topic:
Scrapbooking Myths:
- Myth: Scrapbooking is too overwhelming, so I might as well not even start.
- Truth: I have one word for you: Simplify. Scrapbooking should be fun, inspiring, and a way to tap into your creative energy everytime you see scrapbooking supplies (doesn’t seeing a new Designer Series paper make you want to just create something stunning?). Start simple and take your scrapbooking one page at a time. Having a few meaningful scrapbook pages completed is a lot better than never scrapbooking because you think you can never be “done” or don’t know where to start. Here are a few simple ideas to get you started.
1. Get creative! Take pictures of (and scrapbook) the mundane, everyday stuff you do. Make a “day in the life” page of your or your kids’ average day so that the page expresses a cross-section of who you are. This would be a perfect introduction to your album!
2. Think of scrapbooking a favorite memory (instead of broadly focusing on all the photos you’ve taken). What would you need to capture that memory? Say you go to the park with your children frequently. Sum up your park visits with one or two well-planned pages that capture your thoughts, feelings, and the delight your children feel. Once those pages are complete, you’ll no longer feel compelled to scrapbook each outing to the park, because the important story and memories are already recorded. Of course, if something really special happened on your latest trip to the park, feel free to scrapbook the event, but you’ll be able to move on to other memories and other stories more easily.
If you take away the pressure and overwhelming size of “scrapbooking your whole life,” it can become creative and pleasurable like it was meant to be.
Scrapbooking isn’t a chore—it really is fun!
- Myth: I’m never going to get caught up.
- Truth: Let’s get one thing straight: if you think you need to scrapbook every event or every photo in this age of digital images, you’re right – you’ll never get “caught up.” But the good news is that you don’t have to, nor do you need to make multiples of every page you create, make all your pages the same size, scrapbook your life chronologically, or anything else you don’t want to do. Don’t get discouraged by the details of scrapbooking. Some people don’t even start scrapbooking because they feel like they have to do some or all of these things all of the time to have a meaningful scrapbook. Not true. Your scrapbook can be meaningful and inspiring when you are selective in what you scrapbook and let any guilt, pressure, or feeling of obligation you may have about scrapbooking go (like exhaling all your negative thoughts in yoga—cleansing, isn’t it?). Don’t worry about scrapping every event, holiday, and milestone in your children’s lives. All they really need are the highlights.
- Myth: Pages are supposed to start with photos that tell a story.
- Truth: Photos are just one way of triggering your memory and telling your story. There are other ways to start and finish scrapbook pages. When you think of preserving one memory at a time using your photos as illustrations, you’ll find inspiration in the smallest things, and you’ll find that a single photo or series of photos can trigger powerful memories. Think about these three alternate ways to start your creative juices.
1. Concentrate on describing the people in your life or your feelings about a person or event. Maybe your favorite part of being a mom is the myriad facial expressions your child pulls on a daily basis. Capture your thoughts and a few choice expressions for the page. Photos can come after the idea for the page!
2. Paint a broad picture of the subject by listing some of their favorites. Using a “Top 10” gives you a venue to really share who they are and what they like, but if it doesn’t work for you, find another way to express likes and dislikes. Pages don’t always have to be about a specific photo. Create a Story of Me page.
3. Be willing to change your approach any time you need to. Don’t limit yourself to one type or size of album or page. Why not try an album with a mix of portrait and landscape pages?
What stops you from scrapbooking? Allow yourself the freedom to break some of these unwritten scrapbooking rules and enjoy scrapbooking again (or for the first time)

Tool Time topic:
The Circle Scissor Plus is a tool that we use often in our Wow Scrapbook layouts so we wanted to share some more information about this Stampin’ Up! product.
Circle Scissor Plus
#112530
Price: $29.95
Making perfect circles has never been simpler! Instead of tracing a lid or jar, simply select your circle size and turn the cutting handle to get perfect circles every time – no more squiggly lines! The circles come out perfectly every time, with no jagged edges.
Features & Benefits:
- Quickly draws or cuts out perfect circles
- Adjusts to make circles from 1″ to 6″
- Easily cuts through paper and card stock
- Large, 11″ base with gripper feet ensures that tool doesn’t slip
- Includes: Base, 2 cutting blades, Cutting handle, Adjustable drawing handle; will adjust to fit standard pen and pencil sizes; works great with Stampin’ Write markers
- Blade can be replaced without touching
- Includes instructions for cutting, drawing, and changing the blade
- Replacement blades available (sold separately; 3 per package)
- Works best with Glass Mat (sold separately). The Circle Scissor Plus doesn’t work well on a standard self-healing cutting mat—the cutting blade gets caught and makes it difficult to create a circle without ragged edges. This Glass Mat allows the blade to glide smoothly as you cut, leaving you a perfect circle.
Quick Trick
If you love the look of circle frames, you don’t need to buy separate die-cut circle frames or rings. When cutting rings, cut the smaller circle, or the center of the ring, first, and then don’t move the cutter. Make sure it stays in place while you adjust the size for the outside circle of your ring, and then cut again. Keeping the cutter in place the whole time is the key to making perfect rings. You’ll end up with a custom frame or ring in the size and color you want.
For a great look, you can cut circles of different sizes in coordinating paper and layer them on your scrapbook pages.
Glass Mat
#112531
Price: $19.95
Features & Benefits
- 13″ x 13″ glass cutting surface
- Use with Circle Scissor Plus
- Allows cutting blade to glide without dragging or skipping
FYI
Because the Glass Mat is hard, instead of soft like a self-healing mat, you might feel like you need to push harder on it when cutting. You do not need to apply additional pressure. To clean the Glass Mat, just use a little window cleaner or baby wipe. Do not use rubbing alcohol on the back of the mat (the side with the printing). Rubbing alcohol will remove the printed grid. The Glass Mat is made from tempered glass and is much stronger than regular glass. The steel blade of the Circle Scissor Plus will not cut into the glass; however, if you cut thousands of times in the same place, the area will become scratched. This should not affect the performance or life of the Glass Mat, but you may not want to cut in the same place over and over again.

Stampin’ Basics topic:
What is the difference between pigment ink and dye ink?
Answer:
There are several differences.
- Dye ink absorbs into the paper; pigment ink sits on top of the paper and does not absorb.
- Pigment ink tends to be thicker than dye ink and is often preferred for scrapbooking because pigment inks are more resistant to fading than most dye inks. (However, some dye inks are specifically formulated for use in scrapbooks.)
- Dye inks are more economical and faster drying. Classic Stampin’ Pads and Stampin’ Write markers are dye inks. They are acid free and can be used in scrapbooks. They are not, however, formulated to be fade resistant and nonbleeding. The lighter colors are more susceptible to fading than the darker colors.
- Stampin’ Up!® Classic Stampin’ Pads and Refills (dye inks) are Acid Free, Non-Toxic, and Stampin’ Up! exclusive
- Pigment inks are typically much thicker than dye inks and can be heat set or embossed to dry quickly. Craft Stampin’ Pads and Stampin’ Write journalers are pigment inks. They are permanent and will not bleed. Pigment inks are more resistant to fading than most dye inks.
- Stampin’ Up! Craft Stampin’ Pads and refills (pigment ink) are Acid Free, fade resistant, Stampin’ Memories® quality, Non-Toxic, and Stampin’ Up! exclusive.
- Over time, metallic pigment inks may flake; if you use these inks in your scrapbooks, we recommend embossing with a clear embossing powder.
- Pigment ink, by nature, dries more slowly than dye inks. You can heat-set the pigment inks to speed drying time or set them aside to dry. After heat-setting, pigment inks will resist all but the most deliberate efforts to smear them (such as wetting your finger and rubbing the ink). If you live in a humid area, you will want to heat-set the inks, because air-drying time increases as humidity increases. Heat-setting and air-drying produce the same color results. When heat-setting, be careful of heating too long, which may cause a scorched look.
More on Pigment ink:
- Pigment ink will not dry on slick surfaces, even when heat-set. However, if you seal the ink with clear embossing powder, you get a delightful glossy finish. Our recommendation is that this technique be used for decorative purposes only, because the image can be scratched off with your fingernail or metal, but it doesn’t rub off with just a gentle rub from your fingertip. So you could use this technique for a decorative tile to hang on a wall, but you wouldn’t want to decorate the tiles on your kitchen floor this way.
- Pigment ink works well on smooth raw wood and on wood already painted with a water-based paint, as long as it is heat-set. After heat-setting, you may choose to spray it with a fixative to add an extra layer of protection.
- Results with pigment ink on walls vary depending on texture, finish, and previous paint on the walls. Test on a small portion of unseen wall. If the image is dry after heat-setting, it may be used on the remainder of the wall. Acrylic paints are the best choice for stamping on walls.
- You can use Pigment ink for stamping on fabrics. However, colors are less vibrant on fabric than on paper. Also, even after heat-setting, fabric inks fade slightly. This is true not only of our Craft pads but other fabric pads available in the retail market as well. For a more vibrant image, try stamping the same image twice (one on top of the other) using the Stamp-a-ma-jig®. Here are some important tips to remember when stamping on fabric:
- Prewash the fabric.
- Tightly woven and smooth-finished fabrics work best.
- Test a small area of fabric first.
- Heat-set immediately after stamping.
- Wash as normal or hand wash, but air or line dry.
- For best results, re-ink pad frequently.
- The following colors do not work well on fabrics: Only Orange, Really Rust, More Mustard, and Whisper White

Scrappin’ Tips topic:
General scrapbooking guidelines
- Don’t use “magnetic” albums, even if they’re labeled acid free. Repeatedly peeling up the plastic will eventually destroy your photos.
- Don’t store your photographs in airtight plastic containers. If it’s a tight-sealing plastic bag, do not seal the bag completely—leave a small pinhole for air circulation.
- Don’t laminate items to include in your scrapbook.
- Don’t use rubber cement in scrapbooks.
- Do check with your local library or scrapbooking web sites for more information regarding scrapbooking.
Standards of care
The way you store your projects will have as much impact on their longevity as the components of which they are made. The best way to protect your scrapbooks from deterioration is to keep them in a clean environment with good air circulation; low light levels; and moderate, constant temperature and relative humidity.
- If you want to get a long life out of your scrapbooks, store them in a room that is regulated for comfort.
- If you live in an area with high relative humidity, try to store your projects in a room with good air circulation to lessen the risk of mold growth.
- Exposure to light will fade, discolor, and weaken paper; limit your album’s exposure to sunlight and fluorescent light. Average household tungsten bulbs are far less harmful, because they give off less ultraviolet light.
- Never store your scrapbooks in an attic, basement, garage, or shed, all of which are prone to temperature and relative humidity fluctuations. There is also the added danger of being more exposed to water damage or insects and rodents.
With these guidelines in mind, you are prepared to scrapbook for yourself. Stampin’ Up! offers a wide range of products created for long-term use.
